Police Response
GMP’s first priority in cases of domestic violence is to protect you and any children who may be involved.
Police officers will come to your home, or wherever the incident has taken place, and will take whatever action is needed to make you safe.
If necessary, officers have the power to force entry to your home to protect you.
Officers will separate the parties involved so that you will have an opportunity to speak to them in confidence about what has happened, and any previous incidents, without the offender being around to intimidate or threaten you.
If there is evidence to suggest a crime has taken place, officers will arrest the offender so that you have time to speak to them, get advice, and think about further action you may want to take.
They will then take the offender to a police station where they will be interviewed and charged and either kept in custody or bailed for further enquires. If appropriate they can be given strict bail conditions to keep away from you and your friend and family. If they break these conditions they can be re-arrested.
